Introducing the Project Dashboard: Revolutionizing GIS Management
At iamGIS, our commitment to continuous improvement has driven us to enhance our solution in remarkable ways over the past four years. Today, I’m thrilled to unveil the most significant update since our 2020 release: the Project Dashboard. This latest feature addresses the needs and feedback of our valued customers, aiming to streamline the work order process and boost efficiency. Today, we’ll explore the new features of the Project Dashboard its tools, and best practices for leveraging its capabilities.
Welcome to the Project Dashboard
With our latest update, we’re introducing two major enhancements: Projects Management and an enhanced Work Order system. Let's take a look at what's new!
Projects Management: A Broader View
We’ve added the Projects Management feature to provide a comprehensive view of larger tasks and objectives. Projects Management will allow admins to:
-
Set deadlines and assign tasks to specific users or groups.
-
Track associated work orders to ensure everything stays on schedule.
-
Monitor project statuses, from initiation to completion; all from one easy-to-view screen.
- To Clarify, a Project represents a major goal, such as replacing a section of a water main, which may involve multiple smaller tasks. Each of these tasks is tracked through Work Orders, which are linked to the overarching project. This setup enables admins to maintain an overview of all related work, manage timelines, and update project status as work progresses.
For example, if a project involves replacing a water main, it might span several weeks or months. By linking individual Work Orders to this Project, admins can track each task’s progress, making it easier to manage the overall goal. Projects can be updated to reflect their current status—whether active, pending, or complete—providing a clear picture of progress and resource allocation .
Enhanced Work Orders: Time and Cost Tracking
Our Work Orders tool has received a significant upgrade. We’ve introduced features to track Total Time and Total Cost for each task. Admins can now:
-
Set hourly wages in the account settings for each user.
-
Automatically calculate the total cost based on the time entered and the hourly wage.
This enhancement helps in monitoring labor costs and managing budgets more effectively. Coupled with calculated fields for additional labor and parts costs, this upgrade offers a comprehensive view of expenses associated with each task.
New Viewing Options

To make managing projects and work orders even more efficient, we’ve added several viewing options:
-
List View: This feature allows admins to search and filter through projects and work orders quickly. The calendar view within this option helps pinpoint specific dates and streamline searches.
-
Calendar View: One of our most requested features, Calendar View displays all work orders in a monthly format. This view makes it easy to prioritize tasks and see upcoming deadlines at a glance, simplifying work order management.
-
Project Report: This unique view provides a comprehensive overview of all projects. It shows the number of past due, active, and completed projects, along with recent activity and changes. Additionally, the timeline feature at the bottom of the report page allows admins to view project progression and deadlines, helping to manage overlapping projects and allocate resources effectively.

The introduction of the Project Dashboard represents a significant leap forward in Asset Management management. By integrating Projects Management, enhancing Work Orders functionality, and offering new viewing options, we’re providing admins with powerful tools to streamline workflows, track progress, and manage costs more effectively. We’re excited for you to experience these improvements and look forward to seeing how they can transform your project management processes and provide an easier, more efficient solution to your day-to-day operations.
As always, we remain committed to listening to your feedback and continuously strive to refine iamGIS to meet your needs.
